The Interstate Flyers chartered with the Academy Of Model Aeronautics in 1992 first and foremost because of their long standing involvement in model aviation. By taking advantage of their experiences, we were able to establish a state of the art organization without making many of the mistakes commonly made. The AMA offers many different programs for clubs and individual members, allowing them full access to the model avaition hobby. I urge you to check the website of the Academy Of Model Aeronautics and discover all the benefits for it's clubs and members. A link can be found on our "links" page. Make the most of your modeling experience and join the AMA.
Before the Interstate Flyers, a bunch of guys would get together at a little private air field in Warrens, Wisconsin owned and operated by Vern Spearbecker. Vern, a retired drivers license examiner welcomed flyers old and new and is responsible for many of our beginnings in the hobby of model aviation. He would contribute endless hours teaching people how to fly. Sadly, Vern has since passed but we will always remember him for his dedication to our sport. In 1995, we moved to the Tomah airport where we remain today. Many hours of work have gone into developing our runway, pit and parking areas. Our club has grown over the years as our flying area is now in public view. When people see planes in the air they just have to stop and watch, ask questions and enjoy. The flying site is continuely being maintained and upgraded and we feel we have a flying site that is one of the best in the area.
The goal of the Interstate Flyers is quite simple, to provide for all an opportunity to become involved in model aviation, to provide educational information and assist modelers in achieving their goals. Mostly, to have lots of FUN!!
